About Alan Davis
Originally from the UK I now live happily with my family in Toronto.
Before becoming a psychotherapist I owned a very successful beauty business, creatively training and managing people. For many years now I have been practicing as a psychotherapist working with individuals and couples. I am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I trained in the practice of psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Centre For Training in Psychotherapy (CTP).
An important element that I bring to the work is mindfulness therapy, specifically Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). In addition I am now training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), a profound theory that works with attachment and incorporates mindfulness and many other powerful techniques. This model truly promotes effective change and healing.
At this stage in my career I am very excited with the way that I am practicing psychotherapy; I feel more engaged, alive and really connected with my clients. It is an honour and joy to be able to practice as a psychotherapist. I hope to have the opportunity to work with you.
Issues that I work with:
- Relationship Issues
- Life Crisis and Transitions
- Loss and Grief
- Obsessive and Compulsive Thoughts and Behaviours
- Parenting and Co-Parenting
- Self-Destructive Patterns
- Separation and Divorce
- Sex and Intimacy Issues
- Suicidal Thoughts and Attempts
What happens in a therapy session
The psychotherapy modality we will work with is psychodynamic/talk therapy. My approach is experiential and exploratory rather than explanatory, not just analytical or interpretive. Change occurs within the therapy relationship when we continuously come back to “present moment experience”, the here and now, where we become aware of your emotional life as it unfolds. This way of working is truly transformative. It is a journey that we take together, working in a safe environment, with trust, respect, openness and the exploration of new possibilities. It is not about being clever and saying something new and insightful in every session; it’s about knowing the quickest way to help you have an experience that is transformative. Also I must emphasize the importance of the therapeutic relationship. There is not a “me” or a “you”, but a “we” who are connected in the work together.
Please contact me to schedule a session. If you prefer I offer a 30-minute no-fee consultation to discuss the process and answer any questions.
In addition to working in person I offer online sessions for clients who cannot access the office or who prefer online therapy.
I use a secure professional format, as well as Face Time or Skype.
