About Ruth Kazdan
I have been working as a psychotherapist since 2000. My practice includes clients from a wide variety of backgrounds, nationalities, religions, sexual orientations and paths in life.
My main training took place over 9 years at the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy here in Toronto, and I continue to attend workshops, conferences, courses and seminars to expand and update my knowledge.
I participate in several supervision groups, and have been a board member with the Psychotherapy Referral Service. I am a clinical member of the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapists, the Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists, as well as the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.
Before training to become a therapist, I worked as a musician, piano teacher, and examiner with the Royal Conservatory of Music. One of my special interests is working with people in the arts community. I have practiced yoga and meditation for almost 30 years, and sometimes incorporate mindfulness as a therapeutic technique when appropriate.

What happens in a therapy session
Usually clients commit to coming to therapy sessions once or twice a week. Through talking over a period of time, we develop a unique connection in which we can explore recurring issues in your daily life. These can include relationship and family difficulties, workplace problems, moods such as depression or anxiety, or anything else that is troubling you and keeping you from having a fulfilling life. Our past sets a template for our present, so we will also delve into your history.
Therapy is a special opportunity to explore and connect in a safe and caring environment. It is a process that focuses on you, the client. You direct the flow to your own particular concerns at your own pace. Together we come to understand the underlying reasons for your present situation, and how to make it better.
We can begin with a free half-hour consultation to meet each other and see if we are a good match. Then if you’d like to move ahead, we’ll set up a consistent time for your weekly appointment.
