“Human beings have an inbuilt propensity toward self-realization. If obstacles are removed, the individual will develop into a mature, fully realized adult, just as an acorn will develop into an oak tree.“ (Irvin D. Yalom, The Gift of Therapy)

In Person, Online, Couples or Family Therapy

I share Yalom’s conviction, that as human beings we have a natural propensity towards health and self-realization.  Long before being a psychotherapist I have been a client myself. Since my early thirties my journey in the psychotherapy field has continued fruitfully both as a client and today as a psychotherapist myself.

I completed my studies in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy In Toronto, an in-depth, academic and experiential six-year training program. In this form of therapy the work is directed towards the unconscious. Some core principles are: an emphasis on speaking with as much freedom and authenticity as possible (free association); an in-depth exploration of the client’s dreams; and a focus on the co-created interaction between client and therapist in the present moment.

My training also includes Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 1, for the treatment of traumatic memory, and Level 2, for the treatment of developmental trauma. This is a body-oriented form of therapy which focuses on listening to the language of the body. It is based on the premise that trauma survivors have often symptoms rather than memories; what cannot be articulated is often expressed through physical symptoms, body sensations, or inability to inhabit one’s body in a full, joyful and pleasurable way. By addressing these symptoms in a space that is safe and accepting, we can reconnect with those parts of ourselves that we have learned to silence and that often hold the key to our vitality and well-being.

My interest to work with couples led me to the Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy approach by Susan Johnson. I have completed the level 1 and 2 of their training.

I also completed a six-year advanced study degree in hands-on energy healing at the Barbara Brennan Institute in Florida. This is an extensive, experiential and structured program in the anatomy and physiology of the human energy bio-field. With clients interested in this line of work, we may explore how we are making use of the energy of our bio-field as we move through the world, where it may be flowing freely and where it may have blockages, and work to restore its strength, balance, and coherence.

What happens in a therapy session

Psychotherapy is a collaborative journey we take together, at a pace that is comfortable for you.

What makes psychotherapy a unique form of conversation is that the therapist is skilled in being fully present, listening deeply and with empathy to the words, and also to the silence, that happen in session, and trained to raise questions supportive of deepening the clients’ self-understanding and widening their horizon of possibilities.

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, my practice focuses on medium to long term therapy.

I typically meet with clients once or twice weekly for 50-minute sessions to talk about whatever you, the client, bring in to address.

Therapy rates are $120 +HST. I offer a sliding scale.

For couple therapy the rates are $150 +HST for 75-min session.

I can provide my services in English and Italian.

At this time I am offering sessions online or by phone, and in person on Thursdays only.
