Compassionate inquiry is at the heart of psychotherapy. What brings you to therapy now? Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed? Together, we can explore your experience in an open-minded way, make sense of your story, and safely integrate painful emotions, freeing you up for potential change and growth.

In Person, Online, Couples or Family Therapy

Following my departure from my first career in the financial sector, I changed course to pursue studies in counselling psychology. These studies sparked my interest to enter psychotherapy training, which began at the Toronto Institute of Human Relations and the Assaulted Women & Children’s Counselling Program at George Brown College. I followed these certifications with over ten years of rigorous training in psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Toronto Centre for Training in Psychotherapy.

I currently maintain a trauma-informed psychotherapy practice for individuals, couples and families located one hour northwest of Toronto. My couples training and treatment approach is psychodynamic and includes Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT-C), the Gottman Method, all of which have proven to be very effective for enhancing relationships. I welcome referrals for couple’s therapy.

I have both personal and clinical experience helping women and their families recover from addiction(s). I have completed trauma-informed training for Addiction through Wilfrid Laurier University’s Addiction Certificate Program. Having parented a teen/young adult who has since recovered from serious addiction has been life changing. This personal experience informs my compassionate approach to working with clients in therapy. I welcome referrals for individual, couple and family therapy.

I completed the Adler Graduate Professional School’s Advanced Clinical Supervision Certification in 2019 to provide competency-based supervision to training psychotherapists. My supervision practice is for therapists already practicing psychodynamically, however any therapist interested in deepening their knowledge and clinical skills in this modality are welcome to inquire. I maintain a waiting list for qualifying RP’s interested in group supervision.

Getting to know each other, gathering your life history and collaboratively creating a treatment plan will require 3-4 sessions. Throughout therapy, we monitor your therapeutic progress, and when needed adjust the goals of therapy accordingly.

When satisfactory gains are experienced by the client we enter the ending phase of therapy. We review your progress over the course of the treatment. At that time any unresolved issues are identified. More often than not the client will have a positive experience and make satisfactory gains with the issue(s) they came to psychotherapy for.

The first step of reaching out is to contact me by email (susanyoung1519@gmail.com) to schedule a free 20-minute introduction. This offers you an opportunity to briefly express your current issue(s) and for me to answer any questions you have. Rest assured that I have heard from clients that the first conversation was easier than expected because of my warmth and openness. I encourage you to take this first step.

I invite you to email me: susanyoung1519@gmail.com Emails are responded to within 48 hours.
